Nilizaliwa Kilifi, lakini Mombasa ndiyo iliyonilea. Utoto wangu ulianzia Kongowea, nyumbani kwa soko la Kongowea, kabla familia yetu kuhamia Tudor na baadaye Shanzu. Kila mtaa ulinionyesha sura tofauti ya jiji moja. Soko nililokulia kando yake ndilo ninalotaka sasa kulijenga upya.I was born in Kilifi, but Mombasa raised me. My childhood began in Kongowea, home of the Kongowea market, before my family moved to Tudor and later to Shanzu. Each neighbourhood showed me a different side of the same city. The market I grew up beside is the one I now want to rebuild.

Nilianza masomo katika Citadel Junior School huko Tudor, nikaendelea Aga Khan Primary School, na nikamalizia Loreto Convent Mombasa, ambako nilifanya mtihani wa KCPE mwaka 2011. Shule hizi tatu za Mombasa ziliweka msingi wa kila kitu kilichofuata.I started at Citadel Junior School in Tudor, moved to Aga Khan Primary School, and finished at Loreto Convent Mombasa, where I sat KCPE in 2011. Three Mombasa schools laid the foundation for everything that followed.

Elimu ya seminari imejengwa juu ya nidhamu, kujitegemea na kuwatumikia wengine, mafunzo ninayoyabeba hadi leo.For secondary school I went far from home, to Mother of Apostles Seminary in Eldoret. A seminary education is built on discipline, self-reliance and service to others, lessons I still carry.

Huko nilijifunza kwamba uongozi unaanza kwa kujitokeza, kukunja mikono na kuwatumikia wengine, si kwa maneno.In high school I joined the President's Award programme (The President's Award – Kenya), doing community service in and around Eldoret. It taught me that leadership starts with showing up, rolling up your sleeves and serving others, not with words.

Huko nilijifunza kwamba ubunifu mzuri si mapambo: ni kutatua tatizo halisi la mtu halisi, kwa uwazi na kwa ustadi.I graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art & Design. There I learned that good design is not decoration: it is solving a real problem for a real person, clearly and with care.

Living in a city where reliable public transport, working public services and clean streets are taken for granted convinced me that Mombasa deserves the same.
